Fedeli will seek permanent leadership of Tory party in March 24th vote

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says he will seek the permanent leadership of the Ontario Conservatives.   On Friday, Fedeli became interim leader and on March 24th card-carrying Conservatives can vote for a permanent leader.   The vote will attract other candidates and Fedeli told the Moose not only will he run, he intends to win and lead the party into the June election.

In the meantime Fedeli is giving up his role as finance critic because he says the budget demands a lot of time.   “The budget is a very single focused item that’s coming out shortly and I want someone to be able to handle it singularly,” Fedeli said.   Fedeli says as Leader of the Official Opposition, he now has obligations right across Ontario which means visits to many communities making it impossible to continue in his finance critic’s role.

Fededi expects to name a new finance critic during the first week of February when the Tory caucus meets in Kitchener.   The Nipissing MPP and former North Bay Mayor became interim leader on Friday in a unanimous decision among his fellow MPPs after former leader Patrick Brown resigned on Thursday following allegations from two unnamed women claiming inappropriate sexual behaviour.
