Algoma Public Health celebrates 50 years

The Algoma Public Health Unit, which serves the Algoma District including Elliot Lake and Blind River, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In November of 1968, the Algoma Health Unit, now called Algoma Public Health, was established.

The service area grew with the addition of townships north and east of Sault Ste. Marie in 1968 with Elliot Lake joining the district-wide Board of Health in 1978.

Dr. Marlene Spruyt, the medical officer of health says they are proud of their successes.
