Belcourt, a Metis artist, author and First Nation advocate spoke of the history of the local area and asked council to consider adding an Indigenous greeting to the sign at the entrance of the town to honour that heritage. She also took the opportunity to talk about leaving a future for today’s children and grand-children and the importance of taking a pro-active role in protecting the environment. Belcourt’s artistic work is found in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of Civilization and First People’s Hall to name a few. The Wall of Fame Inductee ceremony took place last night at the Espanola Legion.
