Espanola council welcomed the New Year by honouring two citizens for their bravery.

Espanola Mayor Ron Piche presented certificates and plaques on behalf of council and the community to two local men.

On July 4th, 2017, Andrew Dagg swam out and rescued a fisherman on Little Hannah Lake who had fallen out of his boat and was unable to swim on his own.

And, on July 26th, 2017, Sheldon George rescued a family and their pets when their Queensway Avenue home was consumed by fire.

Piche acknowledged these special acts of bravery stating “you are both heroes and we are proud of both of you, you are our very own heroes.”
