Multi-hub application in Elliot Lake approved

Elliot Lake councillors have finally given the go ahead to apply for funding to build a $41-million multi-use hub for the city.

New CAO, Daniel Gagnon provided an overview of cost and recovery to council.

The best case scenario is to receive maximum financial support from the province and federal government with the city carrying a minimum of a $7-million debt, maximum, $13.5-million.

Council chose Centennial Arena as the new hub location, which could house a new arena, pool, walking track, gym and curling rink.

With the approval, the city will now submit the application for funding for the January 15th deadline.

Depending on funding, the project could take three to five years to complete.
