Former councilor Louise Portelance passes away

Sudbury will remember one of its own this weekend.

A Valley East businesswoman who served on regional and city councils, ran for mayor of Greater Sudbury and also ran for the federal Liberals in Nickel Belt has passed away.

“She served everywhere,” said former councillor Ron Dupuis of Louise Portelance, who also worked with her on the Valley East and Greater Sudbury councils.

Portelance was the lone female voice on both regional council, from 1997-2000, and on the new Greater Sudbury council, from 2000-2003.

Portelance, who died Friday at her home, is survived by husband Denis.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday with a Celebration of Life to be held later.
