Water project for Whitefish River First Nation

Whitefish River First Nation is improving its water services.

Ceccetto & Sons Limited of Sudbury has been awarded the contract to build an elevated storage reservoir.

Once constructed, it will serve the community’s long-term drinking water needs.

It will also provide sustainable long-term water pressure to improve fire protection to the community’s residents and infrastructure.

Chief Shining Turtle says citizens depend on safe and secure drinking water from source to tap and the reservoir will complement the existing community infrastructure.

The water treatment plant began operating in October 2010.

The federal government is providing $3.5 million toward the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and is expected to be completed by October 2018.

Whitefish River First Nation is located about 25 minutes south of Espanola and has 450 residents.
