Two fatalities in northeastern Ontario

The wintry weather in the northeast this past weekend has led to the death of at least two people.

The Greater Sudbury Police is investigating a collision on Regional Road 55 between Balsam St. and Big Nickel Mine Road, which occurred early Saturday morning.

Police say there was a fatality involving a single motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Meanwhile, members of the Temiskaming OPP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision Friday morning shortly before 9:00am.

The collision occurred on Highway 11, north of Tonomo Lake Road in Temagami.

A southbound tractor trailer entered the northbound lane where it collided with a northbound tractor trailer.

The male driver of the northbound vehicle, who had to be extricated, sustained serious injuries while his female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Both accidents are under investigation.
