New data shows Sudbury hospital crisis getting worse: Horwath

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath was in Sudbury yesterday to talk to a local woman about her experience at Health Science North.

Horwath told The Moose new data obtained by the NDP shows alarming occupancy rates are leading to as many as 43 patients every day being put into make-shift spaces like hallways or storage rooms.

Horwath says Roberte Cunningham, told her she checked into the hospital and was moved into little more than a storage closet with no access to a bathroom and no equipment to monitor her chronic respiratory issues.

Earlier this year, Horwath and the NDP released data showing that overcrowding at Sudbury hospitals had reached crisis levels in 2015.

With numbers getting worse instead of better, Horwath says Sudbury families feel justifiably let down by Wynne.

The data obtained covers the time period between January and May 2017.
