Strike continues at Sudbury Counselling Centre

Members of the Sudbury community, particularly the francophone community, are experiencing hardship and a loss of services because of a strike at the Sudbury Counselling Centre.

That’s according to United Steelworkers Local 2020spokersperson, Marty Warren, who represents the 12 striking workers.

Warren says the employer is demanding concessions around working conditions and a significant re-write of an employment contract that has been effective for over 30 years.

The twelve, all women, have been on strike since October 16.

Partners include the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Ministry of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Warren is asking for upper levels of government to step in and resolve the situation with a return to the bargaining table.
