Fundraiser for Morrells raises $1,000

Students, staff and families came together to help out a Massey area family who suffered a major loss to fire.

A good old fashioned barn dance helped to raise money for the Morrell family of Massey who lost a barn and heads of cattle to fire a week ago Friday.

Dianne Emiry told the Moose that S. Geiger Public School in Massey collected over $1,000 for the family yesterday.

She says one student and her mom baked cookies and brought them to school to sell while other students shared their allowance and donated it to the family.

One student not only donated the prize money she won from the Legion’s Remembrance Day contest, but  also baked cookies and then sold them to her neighbours to help raise funds.
The teacher volleyball team offered to wear cow costumes – one costume for every $100 raised.
In the end seven teachers dressed up.

The school is continuing to collect donations for the family.

The loss is estimated at around $250,000.
