College talks resume – back to work legislation

Talks have resumed between Ontario’s colleges and the union representing faculty.

Yesterday morning, the public was informed the faculty had rejected an offer, which would have settled the strike.

In voting this week, 86 per cent of faculty voted to reject Council’s November 6 offer.

Ninety-five per cent of the 12,841 people on the voters’ list voted.

However, later in the day, the two sides went back to the bargaining table after a meeting with Premier Kathleen Wynne.

The Ontario government is tabling back to work legislation to force college faculty back to class, but that process could take a few days.

All 26 colleges are on strike, including two satellite campuses of Cambrian College in Espanola and Little Current.
