Elliot Lake council officially swore in Chris Patrie as its newest member last night.

Patrie had not been the first choice to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Scot Reinhardt just over a month ago.

Council had decided to fill the vacancy by going back to the results of the 2014 election.

However, Kevin Kucey decided not to accept the appointment.

Cathy Clement had the next highest number of votes, 1,172, but is a former city employee in the midst of suing a lawsuit with the city, which is seen as a conflict of interest.

So council went with the next candidate, Chris Patrie, with 1,087 votes.
