Inquest into the Death of miner Alexie Dallaire-Vincent

An inquest into the death of a 22-year-old woman who died in a mining accident near Timmins over two years ago will be held next month.

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, says an inquest will be held into the death of Alexie Dallaire-Vincent, 22, of Matheson.

On May 23, 2015, she was working her regular shift, 925 metres underground, when she was killed in what the company calls a “rail haulage accident.”

She was working underground at a mine near Timmins as a search and rescuer at the time.

The inquest is expected to last two days and to hear from some five witnesses.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act and will examine the events surrounding her death.

The inquest will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Timmins Courthouse.
