Not one, but two flags are flying at Espanola Municipal Hall this year to lead up to Remembrance Day.
Espanola’s president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Gary MacPherson, was joined by Espanola Mayor Ron Piche on Friday to raise, not only the Poppy Flag, but also the North Shore War Pensioners Flag.
The two officially declared the Poppy Campaign underway by raising the flags at municipal hall.
Local sea cadets were out selling poppies all weekend throughout the North Shore.
Meanwhile, in Ottawa, Dominion Command officially launched its Virtual Poppy Drop on Parliament Hill with a digital light show featuring 117,000 virtual poppies, which represent each of Canada’s fallen since World War One.
