2017 Espanola Wall of Fame recipient named – Christi Belcourt

Espanola artist, Christi Belcourt, has been chosen as this year’s inductee of the Espanola Wall of Fame, the town’s highest civic award.

Espanola Mayor Ron Piche made the official announcement yesterday stating she has dedicated not only her artwork for social changes and justice for Indigenous People, but her life as well.

Belcourt is a recipient of the 2016 Governor-General’s Innovation Award, which recognizes individuals, teams and/or organizations whose innovations are truly exceptional, transformative, and positive in their impact on quality of life in Canada, explains Piche.

The public is invited to the inductee ceremony and reception, which will take place in early December.

Piche added he and council are proud Belcourt calls Espanola home and are humbled to be given an opportunity to honour her with this celebration.
