NOON UPDATE: Power out on North Shore – work continues

Hydro One is saying it could take several hours to restore power on the North Shore and Manitoulin Island.

A power outage extends from Spanish east to McKerrow, and in some areas surrounding Espanola, south to Manitoulin Island.

The power went out at twenty to seven this morning.

Hydro One says the cause is the stormy weather where winds have taken down trees and, in the process, power lines.

Crews are out working on the lines.

While the main part of Espanola was only out for approximately ten minutes, communities along the Highway 17 Corridor, and to the south in the Bass Lake, Lang Lake and Fox Lake area, as well as Lee Valley and other southern sections are still out.

Some parts of Manitoulin Island, and as far away as Killarney are also affected.

Hydro One says approximately 15,000 customers are still without power as of this hour, (12 noon).

Hydro One adds restoring power could take as long as four pm this afternoon.
