Town of Espanola hosting open house

There has been quite a bit of controversy over a proposed garbage bylaw in Espanola and council wants to talk to the public about their concerns and answer their questions.

A first step is hosting an open house today as part of the annual Pumpkin Festival.

The bylaw was supposed to be passed into law earlier this month, but following a public outcry, council deferred final reading for six months to educate the public and provide lead time to adopt recycling initiatives to meet the two bag limit.

Council and staff will be on hand to answer questions and explain why they are proposing the four bag limit be reduced from four to two bags.

It runs from 1:30pm to 3pm at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

Staff from other departments will also be on hand, including police cruisers and fire trucks to explore.
