Counselling services employees on strike in Sudbury

Ten women who work at the Sudbury Counselling Centre are on strike.  The staff at the non-profit agency offer counselling and psychotherapy services, including services for women who have been abused both physically and sexually.  The United Steelworkers represent the woman and say the strike is not about money.   In fact the union says it never got the chance to raise monetary proposals because talks broke down over non-monetary issues.  The union says the employer is demanding working condition concessions even though there have been no issues at the work site.  The employees are picketing outside the counselling office and giving people a leaflet saying they’re sorry for what’s happened to the clients.
