Espanola Council Defers Two Clear Garbage Bag Limit

Residents in Espanola will have the opportunity to find out exactly what is expected of them when council passes a bylaw to reduce the number of garbage bags.

Following a public outcry, Espanola Council deferred the move to a two clear garbage bag limit until May 2018.

Town CAO, Cynthia Townsend, says the deferral for six months will allow for more public education surrounding the changes to help reduce Espanola’s waste to the landfill, and encourage more recycling in keeping with the impending Waste Free Ontario Act.

She adds that could also potentially improve municipal funding.

The Town will also host an information booth at the Touch-A-Truck & Council Open House Event next Friday October 20th from one pm to four pm at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

She adds the leaf and yard waste depot will be open until November 13, 2017.
