Stop feeding the foxes.
That is the blunt message from Espanola Councillor Ron Duplessis following several calls from concerned citizens.
Duplessis says back in early Spring a couple of foxes were spotted at the local cemetery.
People started feeding them and now the foxes have become habituated to being fed by humans.
But, they are also frightening people who are visiting their loved ones and that doesn’t sit well with Duplessis.
He says he understands that people care about the animals, but it is not known if they could be rabid and it is causing a lot of anxiety.
He has asked town staff to see if they can post a sign for people to stop the practice.
It is also against the law to feed wild animals, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests.
