About 6,000 Laurentian University students won’t have classes for the next while. The cancellation of studies is the result of nearly 600 professors and sessional staff going on strike after talks for a new contract failed. Faculty president Jim Ketchen says wages is an issue but the faculty union says it’s not the main focus. Ketchen says a major point for the faculty was having more input on what type of courses the university offers. Mediation efforts this week failed to reach an agreement and no new talks are scheduled.
