Tenders Out For New Triple School in Espanola

Sacred Heart School in Espanola was torn down over a year ago and many citizens were wondering when construction of the new triple school would begin.

The tender finally went out last week for the building of a new school to house the elementary English Catholic students, as well as elementary and secondary French Catholic students.

The site will also include day care spaces for up to 120 youngsters, EPOH architect Franco Pastore explained to the Huron-Superior RC Board last week.

He said it is expected to take up to two years for the school to be built with a budget of $23.8 million, with Huron-Superior paying $10.5 million of that amount.

A request for tenders went out September 7th.

Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board and Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario are working together to build the new two-storey, 79,800-square-foot building on the seven acres of land on Mead Boulevard where Sacred Heart once stood.

Sacred Heart students are now housed at AB Ellis Public School.
