A Northern Ontario woman has a warning for people to watch for a texting scam from con artists. Veronica Hanlon of Iron Bridge contacted the Moose FM station in Elliot Lake to say the Bank of Montreal had texted her. In the text, BMO claims it’s updating its mobile app and needs you to reconfirm your personal verification questions by responding to the text. However, Hanlon knew this was a scam mostly because she’s not a client of the Bank of Montreal. Hanlon contacted the BMO branch in Elliot Lake and says she was told not only was it a scam but she was the second person to call the bank about the fake text.
