Elliot Lake holds celebration of life for icon Bob Manuel

It could be busy today at the Royal Canadian Legion in Elliot Lake.  That’s the location for the celebration of life for Bob Manuel who died last Friday at the age of 82.  The event is expected to attract many people from the region.  One person at the event will be federal riding MP Carol Hughes.  Hughes says Manuel contributed a lot to the community and his fingerprints are all over Elliot Lake.  Hughes says it’s because he was involved with so much over the six decades he spent in town.  Hughes says Manuel may be best remembered for the work he did to have Vimy Ridge Day declared a national heritage day. Manuel was at the Elliot Lake ceremony two weeks ago in full uniform commemorating the 100^th anniversary of the Vimy Ridge battle against the Germans during World War One.  Manuel moved to Elliot Lake in 1956 and was involved in many groups like the Terry Fox Foundation, the Navy League and Chamber of Commerce.  His celebration of life begins at 11:00am.
