Lake Huron North Shore First Nations to get new child welfare authority

Communities part of the Lake Huron North Shore First Nations could soon have a new child welfare authority.

Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services is finalizing the process of taking one the responsibility for the communities, including the Serpent River First Nation and Sagamok Anishnawbek.

Board of Directors President Dr. Roger Boyer II says he is ecastic that local agencies will now be able to deliver appropriate services, consistent with the communities’ traditions and cultural beliefs.

The process is expected to be finalized by April 1st.
