Work on multi-year master plan for Espanola parks and recreation underway

A consulting company has started the work of putting together a new master plan for Espanola’s parks and recreation activities.  Sierra Planning and Management met with the public where it got ideas on what that plan should include.  Suggestions from residents and clubs include a desire to see facilities serve multi-uses, some suggested cleaning Clear Lake Beach to make it safer for swimming and others wanted something to handle skateboarding, roller-blading and BMXing activities.  Other suggestions were to have more ski programs for young people and make sure autistic or special needs people can access programs.   Residents also said they don’t mind paying $5 or $10 more in taxes if the money goes to a special recreational fund.  Council will eventually get a final report with recommendations from Sierra on what the master plan should look like over the next five to 10 years.
