Con artists have hit on a new scam that targets businesses by hacking into their e-mail system. In Sudbury, police have learned of fraudsters making requests of large amounts of cash using the company`s e-mail system for a purchase. The scammers pretend to be a high-ranking official of the company and request cash from the payroll or finance departments. Police say transferring large amounts of cash as requested could cost the company a lot of money. They`re suggesting that employees take the time to verbally verify the e-mail`s authenticity with the sender.
