Petition calls for restoration of passenger train service

Riding MP Carol Hughes has given the House of Commons a petition asking the feds to restore Algoma passenger rail service.   The online petition collected about 550 names.  Passenger service was dropped in 2015 and Hughes says it`s created problems for some northerners.  In some cases they get stuck when their own vehicles are damaged while driving over industrial roads that are not maintained for public use.  Hughes adds the train also provided service to First Nations.  The Coalition for the Algoma Passenger Trains organized the petition.   The group says in addition to safety concerns, it`s worried that the lack of passenger service will hurt tourism in the region.
