Long pike wins almost $24 G’s for Garden River man in fishing derby

With 10 minutes to go, a Garden River man snagged the winning entry in the Elliot Lake Fishing Derby winning him the grand prize.  Greg Solomon caught the winning fish minutes before the 3:00pm deadline as about 500 anglers took part in the event on Horne Lake.  Solomon’s pike was 56 centimetres long giving him the $23,600 first prize.  The second place winner was Dave Shubrook with a catch of 47.6 centimetres and that catch got Shubrook an ATV.  This was the 10th anniversary for derby which was a catch and release tournament.
