About 250 people took in the Paul and Hester Zahorec Memorial Seniors Dance during the Espanola Winter Carnival. The Lions hosted the event and the special guest was Christopher Zahorec who arrived from Michigan to pay tribute to his late parents. Paul Zahorec was a major factor with the Espanola Lions for years and Hester also volunteered her time to many groups. In honour of the late couple, the Lions remained the annual dinner. Also during the carnival, numerous people painted hundreds of four by four inch tiles as part of the town’s Canada 150 Mural Project. The finished mosaic, which features Espanola’s logging and forestry heritage, will be on a permanent display at the Town Hall.
