Mining company fined

Goldcorp has been fined $55,000 after a worker at its Porcupine Gold Mine was injured in an industrial accident.  The incident took place during September, 2014 when a worker had a hopper and the sand it contained fall on him.  At the time, the worker was trying to move the sand inside the hopper.  The injured man worked for Miller Paving and the paving company was fined $40,000 in connection with the injury.  The Ministry of Labour found that the hopper was not built to engineering standards meaning it wasn’t completely stable.  Both companies were found guilty of failing to take protective measures for a worker.
