Blue-green algae has shown up in Bass Lake on Manitoulin. The Sudbury and District Health Unit is telling people who normally use the water as a drinking source to suspend the practise. Also don’t cook with the water, use it for bathing or let your pet or livestock drink from it. Anglers also need to be cautious with fish found in water when blue-green algae is around.
Boiling the water doesn’t help because that only breaks open the algae which releases more toxins. The algae will disappear with time and the health unit will sound the all clear when that happens.
