Collins Hall going back to pre-Foodland days look

The Collins Hall in Elliot Lake is going back to its original state before Foodland took it over after the mall collapse in 2012.  When the mall came down, Foodland had no-where to go so Collins Hall was re-purposed to accommodate the grocery store.

With Foodland soon moving to its new home, city council voted 3-2 to have Sobeys bring the facility back to its original look.  Councillor Norm Mann supported this move saying it’s time Elliot Lake got is community centre back after nearly four years.  Council could have asked Sobey’s for cash instead of spending the money on returning the centre to its original state.

Councillor Connie Nykyforak preferred that option saying it creates opportunities for council.  Work on restoring the Collins Hall will begin in a couple of months when Foodland leaves for its new home at the Pearson Plaza.
