Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, Algoma Public Health is making the public aware of safe sex. The push comes as sexually transmitted diseases are rising in the district. Since 2010, cases of gonorrhea have increased by 270 percent in Algoma and syphilis is also on the rise. The health unit says many sexually transmitted diseases have no noticeable symptoms in their early stages. And if untreated, they can cause serious health problems.
