Walford Station to keep post office and Stewart’s General Store continues mail service

Sometime fighting back can pay off as residents of Walford Station learned first-hand when word got out they were losing their post office.   The residents were informed about the pending closure in March.  However, they and town council mobilized and with help from Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes, they won the day.  Hughes says Canada Post will not be closing the small outlet and Ellen Phillips remains the full-time post master.  Meanwhile in Webbwood, residents don’t have to worry about losing postal service now provided through Stewart’s General Store.  Patti Stewart told Moose News there was some concern that the service would disappear from the general store.  But Stewart says this is not the case.  She says there has been talk of housing the post office in private homes or shared businesses.  However Stewart says the business has worked out an agreement with Canada Post and the service will stay in the general store.
