Chapleau teenager wins Miss Teen Canada

A Northern Ontario teenager has made history by being the first Indigenous person to win Miss Teen Canada.   The teen is Emma Morrison, a 17-year-old resident of Chapleau.  Morrison says winning has given her a voice and one of the first things she wants to do is raise awareness about self-acceptance and self-love.   Morrison also says she’s honoured to be the first Aboriginal and Northern Ontarian to ever hold the title.      Earlier in May, Morrison won the Miss Northern Ontario title.   She then beat 70 other contestants nationwide for the Miss Teen Canada crown.   When Morrison got back home, the community honoured her with a parade.  Meanwhile, a West Nipissing teenager managed a Top 10 finish at the national event.  Cassie Tanguay represented Miss Teen West Nipissing and also won the title of Miss Photogenic.
