Hughes invites MPs to AMK riding

The federal member for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing is inviting her fellow MPs to visit her riding over the summer.   Carol Hughes says with so many communities in the huge riding, there’s always something going on.  One big event this summer is in Echo Bay which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Big Loonie Monument.  The monument is in honour of the late Robert Ralph Carmichael of Echo Bay who designed the loon on the Canadian loonie coin.  July sees Community Days in Blind River and the drag races in Elliot Lake.

Lester B. Pearson

Hughes says another highlight is on Manitoulin which features the Lester B. Pearson collection exhibit.  The Old Mill Heritage Centre Museum in Kagawong secured artifacts belonging to Pearson.   In addition to being one of our Prime Ministers, Pearson also represented the former Algoma East riding.   His granddaughter will be at the official opening of the exhibit August 10th and Hughes has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to attend as well.
