The investigation into two separate house fires in Espanola continues with no cause determined in either incident. The first fire took place last Tuesday at 81 Spruce Street and forensics is examining some samples to help determine a cause.
Two days later, a garage fire on Appleford Street also damaged the owner’s home. Fire Chief Mike Pichor says a gas tank in the garage and a lawn mower filled with gasoline made it easy for that fire to spread. No one was hurt in either of the fires but one cat died in the Spruce Street blaze. While the Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the first fire, the Espanola Fire Department is overseeing what caused the Appleford blaze.
