Northern Ontario may see an expansion in its agriculture opportunities.
The province is looking at building a beef farm to create more jobs and boost economic growth in Northeastern Ontario as part of a livestock pilot project. Timiskaming – Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says there are part time farms in the area, but the province wants to create a full time farm.
Vanthof says as the province roles out plans for this, it need to consult the farms in the area.
He says the province is looking to build a two thousand acre farm between Kapuskasing and Cochrane. The Ontario government is hoping this will bring more people to the north.
