Possible closure of fire station worries residents of small community

Residents of Beaver Lake, just east of Nairn Centre, are ready to sue Sudbury if the city closes their fire station.  Sudbury is looking at closing nine fire stations within its boundaries as it overhauls its operations.  If the Beaver Hill station closes, the next nearest fire hall is in Whitefish, about 20 kilometres away.  That worries homeowners because the distance exceeds the threshold for how far homes can be from a fire station before insurance rates go up.   They could get fire service from Nairn Centre, which is much closer.  But that means working out a service agreement since both communities are part of different municipalities.  Sudbury council is expected to vote on the issue this Wednesday.
