Atlas Copco health fraud prison terms announced

A key player in the health fraud scandal of Atlas Copco in Sudbury has received a lengthy prison term.  Paul Caron has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years after Copco was overbilled by $22-million over many years.  The judge has ordered Caron to pay Copco $10-million.  If the fine is still outstanding 10 years after his release, he’ll go back to prison for another six-and-a-half years.  Caron is 72.   A partner in the scheme, 73-year-old Dirk Plate got five years and has to pay Copco back nearly $78,000.   Plate has one year to pay the full amount after he’s released and if he doesn’t, it’s back to prison for another five years.
